Geo Blocks

This is how long it takes for me to get to items on my list. I saw this really great idea by mer mag months ago and put it on my lists of things to make.
She made these geometric squares by painting them different colors.
Since I had a bunch of 4 X 4 blocks left over from a different project I decided to use them. I love how they turned out.
I love that they are stackable, the only problem is they do take up a little more room. They also took a little longer to make than anticipated because there were more sides to paint.
Julian figured out that they also make a great train.
When not in use they can be a little work of art in Julian's room (only because there is more room in Julian's than in Ella's).
I even had a little fun with them.

a feast and a fire...a great spring night

A couple of nights ago, before the cold and rain, it felt like a summer night, so I planned a little feast and a bonfire night for us. My plan was great. Andy got to BBQ and I made the rice. HA! He actually likes to BBQ and usually if I even turn it on and act like I am going to BBQ, I will immediately be shooed away. I don't mind because I'm not a big meat eater and I think the job of actually cooking meat should be up to those that enjoy it...right? This chicken actually was pretty enjoyable. I usually have a hard time with chicken on the bone, with all the tendons and blood vessels still attached, but this was very tasty. I sliced up some garlic and shoved it under the skin (YUCK!!) along with some salt and a generous squirt of lemon. Then I added a couple more squirts of lemon and salt on top. Moist and tasty.
The corn is always a winner. I think the kids love it so much because they get to use the cute little corn holders.
Everyone wanted seconds...especially Yosh.
Look at these two.
Ella has a couple of things she likes to hold onto...her cup and these kitty pants I made her for Halloween a couple of years ago. The pants are okay by me because they are actually really warm. The sippy cups...well, they are supposed to be only for Julian inside the house. Yeah, you can see how well that plan is working out.
Yosh and I having a moment.
The night ended up getting pretty cold and I was hoping for a big roaring fire to warm us, but no matter how much we tried to coax our little fire, it just didn't want to cooperate (I'm going to blame it on the wood). We just had to settle for cuddling up.
these are my favorite types of nights!

Road Trip Part 2

A couple more pictures from our weekend adventure. Wow, actually got a picture with everyone looking at me...even Yoshi.
Time to get a little energy out before getting back in the carseats. Love the vineyards. A little dream of mine would be to own and live on a vineyard. Sigh...
Santa Rosa and little time to waste.
Perfect backdrop for some pictures and perfect spot to find bugs. Roadside beauty.
Heading home and a pit stop in Pismo Beach.
Burning some energy.

Started the morning off with a delicious cinnomon roll. Ummm.
Fun at Pismo Dunes.
Last stop before heading home - Ojai.
We had never been to Ojai and we absolutely loved it. Beauitful and peaceful.
Home sweet home.
Unloading the treasures.

HAPPY EARTH DAY!!!

Road Trip - Part One

Headed north for the weekend. An important pick-up in Santa Rosa was the purpose of our trip but we decided to make a long weekend out of it. Just a few pictures on our adventure.
(on some little road off the 5 to some hot springs)
Andy spotted this in the middle of the road and we had to get a closer look. Don't worry, it was dead...almost dead...it looked like it had been run over, but it was still moving a little.
(on that same road)
I love road side stands and I love taking pictures of them. It looks like those big bags are for $1, right? Nope. The $1 bags had 4 oranges in them. Still a good deal and the oranges were really sweet.
That black blur in the middle is just some dead bugs on our windshield.
I wanted the merry cherries.
Who knew yarn could buy 45 minutes of entertainment for the kiddos. Yeah, that knot involving hair was pretty tight. A little snip and everyone was happy.
More things to do with yarn...tie up fingers and toes. She got pretty good at tying knots.
Made a stop in San Jose and caught up with some sweet friends we had not seen in some time.
This little guy has such a cool personality.
Headed out to SF.
Julian was enjoying the great weather and the view.

Spring Wreath

Inspired by the following wreaths that are wrapped in yarn, I made my own little spring wreath a couple of weeks ago. I found some yarn that I probably wouldn't be using for any projects and it had a nice springy feel, so why not? The why not is that this project ended up taking me hours. Seriously! This yarn is so thin, I wrapped and wrapped and wrapped this wreath. Luckily I had miles worth of this yarn.
I do love how it turned. Some flowers are fabric and and some are thrifted.
The little bird is made from felt.
