DRESSES AND CLOUDS

I was shuffling through my patterns trying to decide on something to make for myself and it happened again, I made this little dress for Ella instead.  Ever since she claimed this fabric and requested a dress from it, I have been trying to decide if I should make a little summery sleeveless dress or more of this style vintage dress.
 Vintage won.
The fabric is definitely vintage.  I think it is polyester.  It's kind of hard to tell in the pictures, but it is a little heavier fabric...probably not the best for a summery sleeveless dress.  I'm hoping she can start wearing it soon on cool spring days with a little cardigan.

On a non-sewing note, the clouds today after the rain were pretty amazing.
I had to pull over and take a couple.

More pretty ones later in the day.
I LOVE CLOUDS!!

New Spaces

I have a new little sewing nook!
The usual routine when I sew: Lug the machine, sewing box, fabric and anything else needed for my project out to my dining room table, work on a project, push everything to one side of the table when it is time for dinner, spread everything out again when I continue to work on my project, push to one end for next meal, spread, work, push, eat, feel guilty about my mess, put everything back in the closet.
Those days are now over and I am so excited!
I found Heidi & Finn on etsy and I am so excited. Cute PDF patterns for the littles. I need to get over my pattern phobia, especially since I bought a bunch at JoAnne's when their $1 pattern sale was going on.
I foresee my machine working overtime in the coming months. Here is a picture of my new sewing corner right after I moved a couple of things. I have since been emptying out the cabinet next to my sewing table and filling it with fabric. I have a couple of ideas for right above the sewing table. I also still need to find a small storage unit for right in that corner. My sewing box is taking up way too much room on my table.
Side note: That's not the machine I use to sew, although that one does work. I found it at an estate sale and couldn't pass it up because it's so pretty and I love the color.

back on the machine

I go through phases with my different interests.
Some days it's sewing and other days it's not.
Right now I feel like sewing, so I better get at it before I am on to something else.
But first, here are a couple of recent projects.
a little bag for a friend
(my own pattern)
WOW!!! I finally made myself a dress.I used this pattern. I was a little confused with the sizing so I altered the size a little and it ended up being way too big. I added a little bit of elastic in the front and positioned the buttons at the back a little bit in and it now fits perfect. If you look closely you can see the huge overlap at the back. Oh well, better too big than too small, right?
A couple of pockets and small ruffled sleeves and I have myself a dress. I need a better hanger to display all the dresses I am going to be making. HA! Wishful thinking. I do have a couple of goals set for myself, though.

Dreaming of summer

With all this rain and cold weather, I have found myself dreaming about summer, which leads to the realization that I will not be buying any new swimsuits this year if I stick to my challenge. Ahhh!! This Burda pattern swimsuit is so cute, but I'm just not sure I could pull that off. It doesn't seem extremely difficult to sew but I get a little intimidated looking at it.
So cute!!
I need to at least try...right?

Vintage Patterns

These all make me smile...and laugh.
I guess Ella gets a couple also.
Can't wait for summer!
Love the long sleeved dress. I think I may want it in a small flower print also. The jacket with the belt is also cute. This one gets me motivated to start.
Hmmmm...but it does make me laugh.
Maybe...
Cute!! I'll take a couple.
WOW!! And the ruffle on the bottom. A sure head turner.
I'm not sure about the sizes on these. The actual measurements on the back don't seem too far off from my measurements, but the sizes are way too big. Anyone know about vintage sizes?
