Alright. So what do you think is in this little container? Not lip balm. No, not yogurt. Deodorant, that's right!!!
I have had all of my ingredients to make deodorant for a while now, except for the Vitamin E soft gels. I used up my last stick of deodorant a couple of days ago and well, luckily we are not mid-summer or else people might have been giving me the stick eye...HA! Anyways, I was forced into buying the Vit E today so that I could make my deodorant.
That's just a picture of some fun I have been having. I was working up a sweat with all those pom poms so I stopped and gathered my goods for the deodorant.
Here is the recipe I got from Angry Chicken.
3 Tb Shea Butter
3 Tb baking soda
(I'm convinced baking soda is good for everything)
2 Tb corn starch
2 Tb Cocoa Butter
2 Vitamin E oil soft gels
essential oil (I used Orange because that's what AC recommended)
Oh, so you may be asking why I am making deodorant when I can easily just buy it. A couple of reasons. First off, most deodorants have aluminum in them. It's a well known fact that aluminum causes cancer...so why am I going to smear into my pores? Second, I just love making things and being able to make deodorant is just fun...I just hope it works.
Melt all ingredients, except oils, in microwave for about 30 seconds.
Stir. Just used your measuring spoon...one less utensil to wash.
Add oils. A corn on the cob holder works great for the soft gels. I added about 6-8 drops of the essential oil. It has a very faint scent of orange. I didn't want it too strong.
Refrigerate. It gets hard pretty fast. To use, you just get a small pea size amount and rub on. It softens with the warmth of your skin.
OK, so I give permission to anyone who knows me to tell me if I stink. I'm just happy I waited until it was cold before I decided to dive into this.
Time to go celebrate my birthday!!!
Woohoo!!!
Oooh, I'm going to have to try this one...I really don't like regular deodorant.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to ya! Hope you're doing something fun!!!
I haven't used regular deodorant for well over a year. I've considered making my own...but find it intimidating. Let me know how it works. I use Crystal Essence brand. First I used the roll on and now I just started using the spray mist. No one had complained about my smell and no cancer causing ingredients...win/win! Happy birthday!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this post! My husband didn’t like the organic deoderant I bought for him so maybe I can make some now.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the b-day wishes. We had a really fun day. Will post. So far the deodorant is working fine (not smelly) except when I went to work. I did feel really sweaty...eek!
