The 25 year old hat

That's right, my grandma made this hat for me when I was just...a little one year old...HA! I wasn't much older than that though. I found it a couple of months ago and actually love it a great deal more now than I think I did when I received it.
I not only love it because, come on, it's made out of granny squares, but also because it was made by my grandma. She is so talented and she is the one who actually taught me how to sew, crochet and knit. Oh, that is another goal for 2010 - pick up some knitting needles. I love that this is Ella's favorite hat also. It's pink, duh!
Thanks grandma for you. Love you!

Some days you just get lucky...

I get giddy and sometimes can't quite contain myself when I find 'little treasures', as Ella calls them, while out thrifting. Yesterday was one of those days.
This framed hand stitched poppy was one of four different flowers. Love the vibrant colors. These little owls which Ella found where actually from an estate sale from a couple weeks ago.
A sweet little hand stitched daisy and these little rabbits were from a previous garage sale. They are now named Peter and Benjamin.
A serious score on all this yarn.
Only 2 but so pretty I couldn't pass them up.
LOVE THESE!!!
A granny square quilt that was not going to be passed up, especially since it looked like it had never been used.
Not thrifted, but oh so beautiful. I can't remember where I found this, but I think I need to make one. This would be a great way to display christmas cards. Hmmmm...

What else can I crochet?

My computer has now recovered from a terrible virus. I think it may have been the H1N1 flu virus, but you never know.
We have been enjoying the slight change in season we experience here in Southern California. Today it was a chilly 80 degrees, so I made sure the kids at least had shorts and t-shirts on and not just a swimsuit which Ella was begging to wear. One thing I love about autumn is preparing for the cold weather to come so my crochet hook has been working overtime.

Ella modeling a scarf that is a gift for someone else.
As long as it has pink in it, it is sure to be loved.

Our new autumn wreath. Not too stoked on the red, but I didn't really have any other autumn colors in my stash when I was making it, and so, determined to get it done before the kids woke up from naps, the red had to do. Oh well...I may change it next year.
So excited to have finally learned how to make a granny square. This will someday be a nice blanket for Ella.
Nine squares down and only eleven to go. I plan on having 5 rows of 4 squares. I now walk around with my crochet bag and crochet any minute I can. My goal is to have it done by Christmas. That's realistic, right? I am normally a total procrastinator so for me I am WAY ahead of schedule.
