a slow spring hike

i let the kids use my camera here and there but usually it is really brief.
we went on a little hike last week and i let them take my old point and shoot camera and use it the entire time.
i really want to see what pictures they took but the camera died near the end of our hike and i haven't charged it yet...it should be interesting, ha,ha.
i had so much fun observing them and how much they enjoyed taking pictures.
we went at a lot slower pace because they wanted to take pictures of everything...when i say everything, i mean everything.
there are probably 20 pictures of one ant walking across the path...i love it!!

the slower pace gave me time to take pictures of some of my surrounding also.
i love that with a camera you are able to see everything around you a little differently.

at the end of our hike we even saw a rattle snake...yikes!!!

Spring Florals

sources:

it's spring!!!
i love spring.
i can't ever decide which is my favorite season...it's a close one between spring, summer and fall.
sorrry winter, i just can't handle the cold.

when i think of spring i think of new growth and a fresh start.
i think of birds chirping and flowers beginning to bloom .

i am loving all of the florals this spring.
i'm not sure if i could pull it off or where i would wear it but i love this floral headdress.
it is beautiful!
i need a serious update in my wardrobe.
i really want to sew some simple spring dresses, i just can't ever find the time...or if i do, i usually sew for the kids.
i'm pretty sure last year i had the same ambition, but this year i am determined.
this pretty dress is all the inspiration i need.

Spring Wreath

Inspired by the following wreaths that are wrapped in yarn, I made my own little spring wreath a couple of weeks ago. I found some yarn that I probably wouldn't be using for any projects and it had a nice springy feel, so why not? The why not is that this project ended up taking me hours. Seriously! This yarn is so thin, I wrapped and wrapped and wrapped this wreath. Luckily I had miles worth of this yarn.
I do love how it turned. Some flowers are fabric and and some are thrifted.
The little bird is made from felt.

I'm really bummed because I can't find the source for this one. Anyone know?

spring is...

...new blossoms and growth...

...making new bird friends...

A bird has made a nest in a little birdhouse we made and hung in out backyard last year. After carefully peeking in without disturbing the house, I found no eggs yet, but there definitely is a nest. We are all excited and I must admit I have found myself standing at the back window waiting to see if I can catch a glimpse of the bird going in or out of the house. There has been a few sightings, but I am too nervous about disturbing the bird and her new little nest to check again for any eggs. I will just have to keep an ear out for some sweet little chirps.
...baseball season...
Or at least chewing up baseballs as far is Yoshi is concerned. Without any sports fans in the home, I would have no idea when baseball season is if it weren't for the unfortunate baseballs lost by our poor neighborhood friends and found by Yo. I love springtime!

ABOUT ME

Welcome to my blog!!

My name is Melissa and I love to create.  Creating to me is forever changing and evolving.  I love a challenge and trying new things.
Some of my favorite creative outlets: sewing, painting, photography, drawing, crocheting, blogging, and crafts with the kids.

I love anything vintage, books, sunshine, thrift stores, traveling, nature, estate sales, handmade gifts, Mexican hot chocolate, fabric, warm sand between my toes, alfresco dining, camping, fall, clouds, candle-lit dinners, laughing, surfing, music, the ocean, porch swings, foreign land, journals, ice cream, exploring, fresh fruit, bonfires, the color green, gardens, french toast, soup, cameras, basil, spring time, tiramisu, quilts, hiking, and most importantly my Creator...just to name a few.

I am a wife to my BFF.  He really is.  We met when I was 16 and he was 18, just a couple of years ago ;)  He was my brother's friend, super cute, a surfer, a gentleman, and way different from any other boy I knew.  We went to Prom on our first date, skipped out after the dinner, and talked and talked for hours.  We were young, but I knew I had found something rare.  We dated, got married, traveled a ton, surfed, played, bought a house, fixed it up, adopted our first baby, Yoshi, and realized that maybe it was about time to have a kid.  I'm so thankful for all the years we had just to ourselves.
I am a mama to my sweet yet mischievous Ella, and to my rough yet lovable Julian.  They are amazing...they really are, even on those rough days when there are tears, fighting and no naps. It has been fun for me to make things for me kiddos.  As they are getting older, I am excited to see their creativity and I love finding ways to be able to be creative with them.

Thanks for stopping by my little world!
I would love to get to know you.
xo, Melissa
