pretending for a day - lautrec

starting college i was an art major.

what exactly i was going to do with an art degree, i had no idea.  i just knew i did not want to teach.
i eventually changed my major to kinesiology and every now and then i look back with a little bit of regret.

well, yesterday i had a little taste of what it would have been like to teach art.
i think i might have enjoyed it more than what i thought all those years ago.

at ella's school they have a program called art master's where the kids learn about an artist. then they have a little art lesson (taught by parent voluteers) where they produce a piece of artwork
using a similar technique after the artist they are studying.
well of course i voluteered for this.
the first artist of the year was Henry de Toulouse-Lautrec
us parent voluteers were given a little lesson on exactly how to teach the kids first.
we taught the kids how to sketch a portrait then paint it using a wet to wet technique (kind of like water color).  lautrec often used somewhat muddied colors so the kids were also taught how to do this.

teaching thirty 6-7 yr olds is not that easy,

but the kids were great.  i love the variety in all of the finished portraits.

i had fun being an art teacher for the day.

  1. The girls have Art Masters, too. I've been asked several times if I want to teach one...but, the whole thought of it scares me! Looks like fun though!
